What LivTours offers
LivTours is the small-group specialist among Rome’s established operators. Angelo Carotenuto began guiding in Rome in 2004 and founded LivItaly Tours in 2009; Kristin Karstendotter joined as co-owner in 2012, and the company later rebranded as LivTours while keeping LivItaly as a secondary name. The head office is on Via Domenico Millelire in Rome, and a US entity registered in California handles North American sales. The company says it now runs more than 350 tours across Italy, Spain, France, England, Austria and Germany.
The rule that defines the product is a cap of six people on every semi-private tour. Beyond the Colosseum and Vatican core, the Rome catalogue includes cooking classes, food tours, Vespa sidecar and golf-cart tours, a 10-hour shore excursion for cruise passengers, and private two- and three-day Rome programmes. LivTours is a GreenStep sustainable-tourism member, and the site displays press logos from Fodor’s, the Guardian, Forbes, Condé Nast and the Washington Post.

Prices and group sizes
LivTours prices in euros (with USD, GBP and AUD toggles) on two tiers. Semi-private tours cost €89–338 per person with a hard cap of six. Private tours are priced per group from €299 for a short basilica visit to €489 for the 3-hour arena-access Colosseum, and €2,399–3,799 for multi-day programmes.
Value depends on duration. The €94 semi-private Colosseum is only one hour, so on a per-hour basis it is expensive against a 3-hour Colosseum group tour on GetYourGuide at €49; what you are paying for is six people instead of 25 and, on the early-morning version, an empty arena. For couples and families of four the private tiers are competitive with Context Travel (US$693 private Colosseum).
What the price includes
Semi-private and private Colosseum tours include the entrance ticket and, where named, the arena-floor supplement; the early-morning versions include the first-entry slot that is the reason to book them. The 9-hour combo includes Colosseum and Vatican tickets and the guide throughout, but not lunch. Basilica tours include the after-hours access fee where applicable. Food tours include tastings and drinks; cooking classes include ingredients and the meal; Vespa sidecar and golf-cart tours include the vehicle and driver. Private prices are per group, usually for up to a stated number of guests, with a supplement for extra people.
Because the one-hour Colosseum format does not visit the Forum or Palatine, keep the ticket: it is a standard 24-hour Colosseum, Forum and Palatine ticket and you can enter the Forum and Palatine on your own afterwards. That turns a short tour into a full morning without paying for a longer guided format. Bring the photo ID used at booking, as Colosseum tickets are nominative.
What travellers report
The tour listings on the official site show ratings between 4.5 and 5.0, and Tripadvisor and Google reviews are strongly positive about the same things: six-person groups that allow questions, guides who adjust to children, and early-entry timing that beats the crowds. The sheet records recommendations from the Guardian, Forbes and Fodor’s, and the site carries the corresponding press logos.
Complaints are consistent and specific. The one-hour Colosseum format feels short to some; per-group private pricing is poor value for solo travellers; and a handful of reviews mention meeting-point confusion at the Colosseum, where several operators gather in the same spots. We found no pattern of refund disputes or no-shows.

Booking, cancellation and support
Book on livtours.com with instant email confirmation; currency can be switched at checkout. Each tour page links to a cancellation and amendment policy, but the refund window is not printed on the listing. Read it before paying and assume that Colosseum and Vatican tickets bought in advance are non-refundable on late cancellation. Support is by email and a US phone line, with the Rome office handling day-of problems.
For marketplace terms on a comparable product, the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel and basilica tour on GetYourGuide is the closest equivalent.

Verdict
LivTours is the operator to choose when six people is the maximum group you will accept and you are willing to pay for it. The early-morning arena entry and the after-hours basilica formats are its best products; the one-hour Colosseum tour is its weakest value. Families and couples get the most from the private tiers. For the smallest groups in Rome from a family-run, locally based company, LivTours is the reference point.
